Hiring a Wedding Planner – 3 Top Tips

Most engaged couples cannot make up their minds if they need to hire a wedding planner or not.  Some think that they have a lot of family members and friends who are willing to help in the wedding preparations, hence, not requiring them to get a wedding planner.

  1. Know your requirements and budget.  There are different types of wedding planners and each kind would have different rates and services.  Some planners would just be consultants while others can be hired to give specific services only.  These types of planners are best suited for couples with ample time to prepare and would just need extra help.  For those working full time and cannot allocate at least 10 hours a week to prepare, then the wedding coordinators that would give full service might be the best option for you.
  2. Once you identify the kind of wedding planner you need, the next thing to do is to select the planner you want to work with.  You have to get a list from reliable sites, or ask from your friends and family members.  After you have chosen about 4 to 5 potential planners, schedule an interview and make sure you get to know them and the particular services they would offer.  Clarify the rates and ask them to give you references.  After the interview, contact their references and check if they are members of associations that certify professional wedding planners.
  3. Lastly, once you decide on whom to hire, ask them to give you a copy of the written contract.  Get their proposal about your budget and make sure they understand your theme.  Remember that it is still you who would make the final decisions, and that wedding planners are just there to help and guide you make that fairy tale wedding come true.
